Bruselas, Bélgica · La Comisión Europea (CE) ha determinado que Italia concedió ayudas de Estado ilegales a aerolíneas, entre ellas a Vueling, en la región de Cerdeña en violación de las reglas comunitarias en materia de competencia, y ordenó al Estado recuperar el importe otorgado.
El Ejecutivo comunitario concluyó tras una investigación en profundidad abierta en enero de 2013 que la región italiana de Cerdeña otorgó de manera selectiva a aerolíneas que operan en los aeropuertos de Cagliari y de Olbia una «ventaja injusta». Se trata de Ryanair (LON:RYA), easyJet, Air Berlin, Meridiana, Alitalia, Air Italy, Volotea, Wizzair, Norwegian, JET2.., Niki, Tourparade, Germanwings, Air Baltic y Vueling. La Comisión Europa determinó que las medidas de ayuda no implicaron ayudas de Estado a aeropuertos de Cerdeña.
En 2010 Cerdeña adoptó un sistema para desarrollar el transporte aéreo y asegurar conexiones aéreas desde la isla durante todo el año, indicó el Ejecutivo comunitario. El sistema de apoyo consistió en aportar financiación a los aeropuertos de Cagliari y Olbia, que a su vez la emplearon para dar compensaciones económicas a determinadas aerolíneas.
El objetivo de esta compensación era que estas aerolíneas aumentaran el tráfico aéreo a los aeropuertos de Cerdeña y llevaran a cabo actividades de mercadotecnia relacionadas. La transferencia de financiación regional desde los aeropuertos a las aerolíneas se hizo sujeta a condiciones que fueron supervisadas por las autoridades de Cerdeña.
