El aeropuerto de Canberra abre nuevas áreas internacionales de detección de salón y de inmigración
Nuevas áreas de descanso y de detección de inmigración se han abierto en Canberra Airport por delante de los primeros vuelos internacionales programados para la próxima semana.
Aeropuerto jefe Terry Nieve abrió oficialmente las áreas de esta mañana y dijo que creía que la ciudad estaba lista para reclamar el título de un aeropuerto “Internacional”.
“Solíamos decir que somos Aeropuerto Internacional de Canberra pero nos reímos tanto que tuvimos que dejar el internacional”, bromeó.
“Sólo nos llamamos a nosotros mismos aeropuerto de Canberra. Pero tal vez ahora nos pondremos en la parte trasera internacional allí.”
En un acuerdo Snow dijo que era más de 18 años en la fabricación, Singapore Airlines conectará con el aeropuerto de Changi de Canberra, así como Wellington, en Nueva Zelanda, cuatro veces a la semana. El aeropuerto está discutiendo vuelos adicionales con las compañías de bajo coste en Asia.
“El aeropuerto está aproximadamente a una capacidad trimestre. Nunca voy a ver el aeropuerto utiliza plenamente”, dijo Snow.
Decenas de dignatarios asistieron a la ceremonia incluyendo el ministro de Transporte Darren Chester, que estaba particularmente impresionado por la nueva terminal.
“Me quedé impresionado cuando entré arriba esta mañana”, dijo a la reunión. “Yo estaba esperando a ver el mismo terminal de edad que he visto en varios aeropuertos en todo el mundo. Algunas viejas sillas de vinilo con costras. “Pero tengo que decir que este es un estado de la instalación de arte.” 
Canberra Airport opens new international lounge and immigration screening areas
New lounge and immigration screening areas have been opened at Canberra Airport ahead of the first international flights scheduled for next week.
Airport boss Terry Snow officially opened the areas this morning and said he believed the city was ready to reclaim the title of an “International” airport.
“We used to call ourselves Canberra International Airport but we got laughed at so much we had to drop the international,” he joked.
“We only call ourselves Canberra Airport. But maybe now we’ll get the international back in there.”
In a deal Mr Snow said was more than 18 years in the making, Singapore Airlines will connect Canberra with Changi Airport as well as Wellington in New Zealand, four times a week.
The airport is discussing additional flights with low-cost carriers in Asia. “The airport is at about a quarter capacity. I’ll never see the airport fully used,” Mr Snow said.
Dozens of dignitaries attended the ceremony including Transport Minister Darren Chester, who was particularly impressed by the new terminal.
“I was blown away when I walked upstairs this morning,” he told the gathering. “I was expecting to see the same old terminal I’ve seen at various airports around the world. Some crusty old vinyl chairs. “But I’ve got to say this is a state of the art facility.” A\W
