Mango Airlines, filial de SAA cesa operaciones en 05/2021
La aerolínea sudafricana low cost Mango Airlines ha comunicado el cese de sus operaciones aerocomerciales a patir del 1 Mayo de 2021, después de estar acosada por problemas financieros, al no poder resistir el colapso de la crisis de los viajes en el mundo entero por los efectos de la pandemia de Coronavirus.
El Director Ejecutivo de la aerolínea, William Ndlovu, ha comunicado a su personal en una nota interna fechada el 22/04 que se había pedido al Gobierno que apoyara las decisiones tanto de la Junta Directiva de Mango Airlines como de la Consejo Interino de la empresa matriz South African Airways de poner a la asediada aerolínea en rescate empresarial después de que la aerolínea no pudiera obtener más fondos para mantenerla en el aire. Esto se refiere al compromiso anterior del Gobierno en el que la Dirección Ejecutiva y el Consejo Interino de Mango habían estado en conversaciones para un rescate financiado por los contribuyentes para la aerolínea que no se materializó. El fondo de rescate del Gobierno iba a ser asignado en Octubre de 2020 a más tardar, y Mango Airlines había utilizado esta promesa como palanca del Gobierno de Sudáfrica para convencer a los acreedores de agregar una extensión de reembolsos hasta Enero 2021. “Nos comprometimos con todos los acreedores y pedimos que nos dieran hasta enero de 2021 para liquidar lo que se les debía, y esto se concedió. Por lo tanto, es con gran tristeza que les informo que nuestras operaciones se detendrán temporalmente desde el 1 de Mayo de 2021, hasta el momento en que recibamos financiación o completemos el proceso de rescate empresarial en caso de que sea apoyado por DPE”, expresó William Ndlovu.
