Latam pérdidas de US$692 millones en tercer trimestre 2021
La aerolínea Latam Airlines Group informó que durante el tercer trimestre de 2021 registró una pérdida neta de US$ 691,9 millones de Dólares, debido a los costos de manutención y a los gastos de la reestructuración que lleva adelante por la pandemia. Durante ese periodo obtuvo unos ingresos de US$ 1.314 millones de Dólares, lo que representa un 50,7 % menos que lo conseguido en igual lapso de 2019, antes de la emergencia sanitaria mundial que causó el coronavirus.
El dato de ingresos, sin embargo, supone una mejora del 47,8 % en comparación al segundo trimestre de 2021 y del 156,1 % frente a 2020, año cuando la compañía concluyó con una pérdida neta de US$ 4.545,9 millones de Dólares. Por su parte, los ingresos de carga registraron un aumento de 43,6 % en el tercer trimestre de este año en comparación con el mismo periodo de 2019, llegando a los 361,4 millones de dólares.
Respecto de la operación, Latam Airlines alcanzó en este último trimestre un 49,7 % de los niveles de 2019 (medidos en asientos por kilómetros), «impulsados por una fuerte recuperación en sus operaciones domésticas y un aumento de capacidad de 75 % en comparación con el segundo trimestre de 2021», según informó la compañía. El grupo dijo que espera cerrar el año operando sobre un 65 % de capacidad consolidada, en asientos por kilómetros, frente a los niveles de 2019. «Nuestra operación continúa recuperándose, lo que se traduce en una mejora sustancial de nuestros ingresos durante el tercer trimestre», dijo el CEO de Latam Airlines, Roberto Alvo.
Los costos totales alcanzaron los US$ 1.793 millones de Dólares al cierre del período, lo que representa una caída del 25,2 % en comparación con el tercer trimestre de 2019. El costo del asiento por kilómetro, sin considerar la variable combustible, disminuyó 18,3 % frente al segundo trimestre de este año, «a pesar de los mayores costos de mantenimiento y una recuperación más lenta de la operación internacional», informó la empresa.
Antes de la pandemia, Latam volaba a 145 destinos en 26 países y operaba aproximadamente 1.400 vuelos diarios, transportando a más de 74 millones de pasajeros anuales. Con la pandemia, redujo su operación hasta en un 95 % y concluyó el 2020 con una caída de sus ingresos operacionales del 58,4 %.
Latam Airlines Group incorporada como empresa en 2012 de la fusión entre la chilena LAN Airlines y la brasileña TAM Linhas Aéreas, se acogió en mayo del año pasado al Capítulo 11 de la Ley de Quiebras de Estados Unidos, que permite a una empresa que no puede pagar sus deudas reestructurarse sin la presión de los acreedores. La decisión de declararse en bancarrota incluyó tanto a la matriz, que cotiza en la Bolsa de Nueva York y en la de Santiago de Chile, como a sus filiales en Chile, Perú, Colombia, Ecuador, Brasil y Estados Unidos.

The airline Latam Airlines Group reported that during the third quarter of 2021 it registered a net loss of US$ 691.9 million, due to maintenance costs and restructuring expenses carried out by the pandemic. For its part, cargo revenues registered an increase of 43.6% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2019, reaching 361.4 million dollars.
Regarding the operation, Latam Airlines reached in this last quarter 49.7% of the levels of 2019 (measured in seats per kilometer), «driven by a strong recovery in its domestic operations and an increase in capacity of 75% compared to with the second quarter of 2021, «as reported by the company. The group said it expects to close the year operating on 65% of consolidated capacity, in seats per kilometer, compared to 2019 levels. «Our operation continues to recover, which translates into a substantial improvement in our revenues during the third quarter», said Latam Airlines CEO Roberto Alvo.
Total costs reached US$ 1,793 million at the end of the period, which represents a 25.2% drop compared to the third quarter of 2019. The cost of the seat per kilometer, without considering the fuel variable, decreased 18,3% compared to the second quarter of this year, «despite higher maintenance costs and a slower recovery of the international operation», the company reported.
