Boeing envía primer 737 MAX a China
Un avión Boeing 737 MAX que despegó de Seattle (WA) Estados Unidos el Lunes 14/03 está en camino a la planta de finalización de la compañía en Zhoushan, China, en una señal de que el modelo está más cerca de regresar a los vuelos comerciales en el país después de una puesta a tierra de tres años. Los aviones Boeing 737 MAX se enfrentan a un nuevo escrutinio después de la puesta en tierra mundial. “Si esto apunta a una entrega, será la primera entrega de MAX a China desde Marzo de 2019, lo cual es material ya que el país históricamente ha representado el 17% de las entregas”, dicen los analistas de Jefferies Group LLC. En Diciembre 2020, el regulador de aviación de China proporcionó a Boeing una lista de correcciones requeridas antes de su regreso a los vuelos comerciales, pero hasta ahora solo se han realizado vuelos de prueba. Más temprano el Lunes 14/03, Boeing dijo que la nueva aerolínea caribeña Arajet ordenó 20 aviones 737 MAX con opciones para comprar otros quince aviones MAX.
A pesar de que el Gobierno chino aún no ha dado luz verde para el regreso del 737 MAX al servicio comercial en el país, las fuentes dicen que Boeing ha comenzado a volar el modelo a su planta de finalización en Zhoushan. Después de poco más de tres años de puesta a tierra, la recertificación del 737 MAX en China ha sido inminente desde hace algún tiempo. Sin embargo, no hay una decisión oficial sobre el futuro de la aeronave, actualmente presente en la flota de trece transportistas en el país. Eso pronto podría estar a punto de cambiar si los datos de vuelos recientes son una indicación. Las instalaciones del fabricante de aviones en Zhousan, en la provincia oriental de Zhejiang, se utilizan para instalar interiores en el avión antes de la entrega final. Se inauguró en Diciembre de 2018, un par de meses después del primer accidente fatal y unos meses antes del segundo que iba a ver al MAX en tierra en todo el mundo durante más de dos años. Entregó su primer MAX 8 a Air China ese mismo mes. China fue el primero en dejar en tierra el avión y es el último mercado importante que aún no lo ha recertificado. El tercer aniversario de la puesta a tierra llegó y se fue la semana pasada.
Mercado chino
Antes de la puesta a tierra del Boeing 737 MAX, la compañía estadounidense estaba vendiendo una cuarta parte del avión de cuarta generación a China, y actualmente tiene más de 140 aviones 737 MAX construidos para clientes chinos que esperan ser entregados. El Director Ejecutivo del fabricante, Dave Calhoun, había creído inicialmente que la Autoridad de Aviación Civil de China (CAAC), declararía el avión apto para volar antes de finales del 2021. Si bien esto no sucedió, emitió una directiva de aeronavegabilidad en diciembre, aprobando los cambios que Boeing había realizado en el software del avión. Desde entonces, las aerolíneas chinas, incluidas China Southern y Hainan Airlines, han realizado vuelos de prueba de la aeronave sin pasajeros a bordo.

A Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that took off from Seattle (WA) United States on Monday 03/14 is on its way to the company’s completion plant in Zhoushan, China, in a sign that the model is closer to returning to flights businesses in the country after a three-year grounding. Boeing 737 MAX planes face new scrutiny after global grounding. “If this points to a delivery, it will be MAX’s first delivery to China since March 2019, which is material as the country has historically accounted for 17% of deliveries”, say analysts at Jefferies Group LLC. In December 2020, the Chinese aviation regulator provided Boeing with a list of required fixes before its return to commercial flights, but only test flights have been carried out so far. Earlier on Monday 03/14, Boeing said that the new Caribbean airline Arajet ordered 20 737 MAX aircraft with options to purchase another fifteen MAX aircraft.
Although the Chinese government has yet to give the green light for the 737 MAX to return to commercial service in the country, sources say Boeing has begun flying the model to its completion plant in Zhoushan. After just over three years of grounding, recertification of the 737 MAX in China has been imminent for some time. However, there is no official decision on the future of the aircraft, currently present in the fleet of thirteen carriers in the country. That could soon be about to change if recent flight data is any indication. The aircraft manufacturer’s facility in Zhousan, in the eastern province of Zhejiang, is used to install interiors on the plane before final delivery. It opened in December 2018, a couple of months after the first fatal crash and a few months before the second that was to see the MAX on the ground around the world for more than two years. It delivered its first MAX 8 to Air China that same month. China was the first to ground the plane and is the last major market that has yet to recertify it. The third anniversary of the grounding came and went last week.
Chinese market
Before the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX, the US carrier was selling a quarter of the fourth-generation aircraft to China, and currently has more than 140 737 MAX aircraft built for Chinese customers waiting to be delivered. The manufacturer’s CEO, Dave Calhoun, had initially believed that the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) would declare the plane airworthy before the end of 2021. While this did not happen, it issued an airworthiness directive in December, approving changes Boeing had made to the aircraft’s software. Since then, Chinese airlines, including China Southern and Hainan Airlines, have flown test flights of the aircraft without passengers on board.
