Qatar Airways belongs to the oneworld frequent flyer group, which counts as a founding member of the United States. American also has a separate Pact with Etihad that allows customers to earn or redeem US miles on some Etihad Airways flights.
As for the end of the code-sharing partnership, that’s the latest twist in a fight between American, Delta and United, and fast-growing Middle Eastern airlines that refuse to get subsidies.
Complicating things, the CEO of Qatar Airways says his airline plans to buy 10% of American Airlines. American said in a regulatory statement on July 12 that Qatar has filed a new notice of its intention to buy US stock. American says he did not apply for the investment. A\W
