Southwest Airlines ha recibido su primer Boeing 737-8 MAX sin ceremonia formal

La línea aérea con base en Texas ha marcado un hito este martes 29 de agosto de 2017 con la introducción de la última variante de la generación del Boeing 737. Southwest Airlines recibió silenciosamente su primer avión Boeing 737 MAX, cancelando una celebración con los empleados en el Aeropuerto de Dallas. Pero debido a la devastación por el paso del huracán Harvey, se ha tenido que cancelar la ceremonia formal de entrega del nuevo equipo.

La llegada del Boeing 737-8 MAX a Southwest Airlines, con registro MSN: 42567 y número de matrícula de la aerolínea: N8710M, este martes 29 de agosto marca el inicio de la introducción de la nueva y última variante de la línea Boeing 737, que ha superado los récords de ventas en Boeing.

“Continuaremos nuestro trabajo para conseguir que el avión esté listo para entrar en servicio en Southwest Airlines el 1 de octubre de 2017. Más detalles de entrega estarán disponibles esta semana”, dice un portavoz de Southwest.

El 737-8 MAX operó un vuelo de 3h 19min desde Boeing Field hacia Dallas Love Field, donde el sitio web de seguimiento de vuelo Flightradar24 muestra su trayectoria ahcia su nuevo hogar.

La aerolínea había planeado inicialmente un evento el 30 de agosto para celebrar la entrega de los aviones, pero la canceló para concentrar sus esfuerzos en la recuperación de las operaciones después de que el huracán Harvey golpeara a Texas el fin de semana.

Southwest Airlines tiene planificado lanzar nueve 737-8 MAX en servicio a partir del 1 de octubre, y añadirá una décima aproximadamente una semana después. Finalizará 2017 con 14 Boeing 737-8 MAX. La aerolínea, que es el operador 737 más grande del mundo, tiene pedidos para 200 aviones 737 MAX, que incluyen 170 MAX 8 y 30 MAX 7.

Proceso de renovación de flota
El MAX está entrando en la flota de Southwest mientras retira sus 737 Clásicos restantes, que volarán en la línea aérea hasta el 29 de septiembre de 2017. Cerca de 30 737 clásicos operarán ese día, dice la aerolínea en la Cumbre Internacional de Pronósticos de Aviación del Grupo Boyd en Las Vegas. Southwest Airlines silently received its first Boeing 737 MAX plane, canceling a celebration with employees at Dallas Airport. But due to the devastation due to Hurricane Harvey, the formal ceremony of delivery of the new equipment has had to be canceled.

The airline had originally planned an event on August 30 to celebrate the delivery of the planes, but canceled it to focus its efforts on recovering operations after Hurricane Harvey struck Texas over the weekend.

Southwest Airlines plans to launch nine 737-8 MAXs in service from October 1, and will add a tenth approximately one week later. It will end 2017 with 14 Boeing 737-8 MAX. The airline, which is the world’s largest 737 operator, has orders for 200 737 MAX aircraft, including 170 MAX 8 and 30 MAX 7.

Fleet renewal process
The MAX is entering the Southwest fleet while withdrawing its remaining 737 Classics, which will fly in the airline until September 29, 2017. About 30 737 classics will operate that day, the airline says at the International Aviation Forecast Summit Of the Boyd Group in Las Vegas. On September 30th, the airline will be a 737NG airline, before deploying the MAX 8 the next day.

“To respect that many of our people can not leave Houston or be affected, it just did not seem right to do so,” airline spokesman Dan Lansdon said of the ceremony scheduled for Wednesday.

Malindo Airways was the first airline to introduce the Boeing 737 MAX 42567, a Malaysian subsidiary of Lion Mentari Airlines PT.

Southwest still claims the launch customer title for the MAX 8 after placing the initial order in 2011, a role that has served three previous models of the 737 as the single-aisle’s largest buyer of the plane. The Dallas-based carrier has 200 of Max’s upgraded Boeing aircraft and plans to receive the first 14 this year.

The aircraft will debut in the United States on October 1, 2017 in a complex change as the carrier withdraws its remaining Boeing 737-300, the oldest aircraft in its fleet. The last flight of the oldest jets, known as the classics, will be on September 29, 2017.

The MAX brings fuel economy to Southwest and a break in maintenance costs as the airline sheds a 737 model it has been using since Ronald Reagan was president. The newest 737 will burn more than 20 percent less fuel than retired jets soon, according to Southwest.

Uncertainty over the training requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration to fly the 737-300 fleet in comparison to the Max led to Southwest’s decision in April to remove the older aircraft early. Southwest and its union of pilots failed to agree on terms that would separate a group of airmen to fly only the 737-300 and simplify training for change in aircraft. A \ W
