Virgin se convierte en la primera aerolínea europea en ofrecer Wi-Fi en cada vuelo
La aerolínea británica Virgin Atlantic ha completado su equipamiento con el servicio de red Wi-Fi en toda la flota de aviones, que según la compañía es la primera aerolínea europea en estar plenamente conectada.
Virgin Atlantic ha introducido Wi-Fi en todos sus vuelos, incluyendo los operados por su aerolínea asociada Delta Air Lines. Esto la convierte en la primera aerolínea europea en ofrecer Wi-Fi en vuelo a través de toda su flota de 39 aviones, con pasajeros capaces de permanecer conectados poco después del despegue hasta poco antes del aterrizaje.
“Hemos trabajado estrechamente con los proveedores de Wi-Fi para desarrollar la conexión más rápida y fiable a través del Atlántico y somos la primera compañía que ofrece Wi-Fi entre el Reino Unido y el Caribe, China y África”, señaló Mark Anderson, vicepresidente ejecutivo de clientes, en un comunicado.
La última oferta sigue a un movimiento de JetBlue Airways a principios de este año para convertirse en la primera aerolínea en ofrecer Wi-Fi gratis en todos sus aviones en todos los vuelos. Su servicio Fly-Fi está disponible para los pasajeros tan pronto como aborden (mientras que para la mayoría de las aerolíneas sólo está disponible cuando el avión está a su altitud de crucero) hasta que llega a su destino.
La aerolínea Fly-Fi está disponible sólo en vuelos en la región contigua de EE. UU. (Es decir, los estados continentales, excluyendo Hawai y Alaska y sus territorios off-shore) y “esta área de cobertura no garantiza necesariamente la disponibilidad del servicio”.
En Europa, sólo un puñado de compañías aéreas ofrecen Wi-Fi gratuito, incluyendo Norwegian Air la tercera mayor compañía de bajo coste de Europa. Su servicio Wi-Fi gratuito está disponible en la mayoría de sus vuelos en Europa, así como en vuelos entre los Estados Unidos y el Caribe, aunque todavía no está disponible en vuelos internacionales de largo recorrido.

British airline Virgin Atlantic has completed its equipment with the Wi-Fi network service throughout the aircraft fleet, which the company says is the first European airline to be fully connected.
Virgin Atlantic has introduced Wi-Fi on all its flights, including those operated by its partner airline Delta Air Lines. This makes it the first European airline to offer Wi-Fi in-flight through its entire fleet of 39 aircraft, with passengers able to stay connected shortly after takeoff until shortly before landing.
“We have worked closely with Wi-Fi providers to develop the fastest and most reliable connection across the Atlantic and we are the first company to offer Wi-Fi between the UK and the Caribbean, China and Africa,” said Mark Anderson, executive vice president of customers, said in a statement.
The latest offer follows a move by JetBlue Airways earlier this year to become the first airline to offer free Wi-Fi on all its planes on all flights. Your Fly-Fi service is available to passengers as soon as they board (while most airlines are only available when the plane is at its cruising altitude) until it reaches its destination.
The Fly-Fi airline is only available on flights in the contiguous US. UU. (Ie the continental states, excluding Hawaii and Alaska and their offshore territories) and “this coverage area does not necessarily guarantee the availability of the service.”
In Europe, only a handful of airlines offer free Wi-Fi, including Norwegian Air’s third-largest low-cost carrier in Europe. Its free Wi-Fi service is available on most of its flights in Europe, as well as flights between the United States and the Caribbean, although it is not yet available on long-haul international flights.
