Southwest Airlines marcará el comienzo de un nuevo capítulo en la historia de la compañía el 1 de octubre con el lanzamiento del Boeing 737 MAX
El Boeing 737 MAX es un avión de próxima generación que será un caballo de batalla en la flota de la compañía con sede en Dallas en las próximas décadas. Sin embargo, el MAX ofrece algo más que un olor a un avión nuevo: su mayor eficiencia en el consumo de combustible y su mayor autonomía podrían transformar las redes de aerolíneas en toda la industria mediante una conexión eficaz y económica entre nuevos mercados.
El futuro de la flota
El MAX comenzará como una pequeña presencia en la flota de Southwest, pero continuará creciendo, especialmente si Southwest adquiere todos los 191 aviones que tiene opciones. Si se ejercen esas opciones, el MAX podría representar casi la mitad de la flota de Southwest, que en la actualidad se encuentra alrededor de 700 aviones, en sólo 10 años.

El MAX 8 tiene casi las mismas dimensiones que su predecesor, el 737-800, con nuevos winglets y nuevos motores entre los cambios más visibles. Al igual que con su generación anterior de 737, Boeing planea ofrecer una serie de variantes con fuselajes estirados para acomodar asientos adicionales, lo que permite a las aerolíneas elegir el tamaño adecuado para sus necesidades.
“Hemos trabajado muy duro en nuestros planes de flota en los últimos años para modernizar nuestra flota, y con eso viene la eficiencia significativa. La MAX es una gran parte de eso. Ahorro en combustible
Southwest dice que los nuevos motores en el MAX reducen la quema de combustible hasta un 14% en comparación con las generaciones mayores. A medida que más aviones de MAX entren en la flota, podría producir ahorros significativos en lo que actualmente es el segundo gasto más grande de Southwest después de la mano de obra.

The Boeing 737 MAX is a next generation aircraft that will be a steed in the Dallas-based company’s fleet at next decades. However, the MAX offers more than just a smell of a new airplane: its greater fuel efficiency and greater autonomy could transform airline networks across the industry through an efficient and inexpensive connection between new markets.
The future of the fleet
The MAX will begin as a small presence in the Southwest fleet, but will continue to grow, especially if Southwest acquires all 191 aircraft that have options. If those options are exercised, the MAX could account for almost half of Southwest’s fleet, which currently numbers about 700 aircraft in just 10 years.
“The story of the 737 MAX is really about its routing capabilities. This is an airplane with fairly decent long range capabilities. In theory, for airlines like Southwest, MAX can make flights from the mainland to Hawaii or the US South America or the Northeastern United States to practical Europe”.
Meet the “MAX”
The MAX 8 has almost the same dimensions as its predecessor, the 737-800, with new winglets and new engines among the most visible changes. As with its previous generation of 737, Boeing plans to offer a series of variants with stretched airframes to accommodate additional seats, allowing airlines to choose the right size for their needs.
“We have worked very hard on our fleet plans in recent years to modernize our fleet, and with that comes significant efficiency. The MAX is a big part of that. It is much more fuel-efficient than the Classic It’s a big deal for us, and we’re looking forward to putting that beautiful plane into service.”
Fuel savings
Southwest says the new engines at the MAX reduce fuel burn by up to 14 percent compared to older generations. As more of MAX’s planes enter the fleet, it could produce significant savings in what is now Southwest’s second-largest after-work expense.
“Most passengers will not notice the difference when they board the 737 MAX from Southwest, which has the same upgraded interior that is already on many of the company’s planes, but for the airline, the MAX offers a mix of efficiency and performance that will enable it to fly existing routes more cost-effectively and potentially launch service to new and more distant destinations”.
Orders accumulate
