Air Kiribati ha recibido formalmente su primer Dash-8-100

La aeronave Bombardier DHC-8-102A, C-FRXH (msn 388) arribó al Atolón Tarawa, Kiribati, el lunes 30 de octubre de 2017.

Air Kiribati comunicó que el contrato de 23 años de las actuales aeronaves se someterían a 100 horas de pruebas antes de ser desplegadas en el servicio comercial, donde se utilizará para conectar principalmente los puertos nacionales de Abemama, Butaritari, Tabiteuea North y Nikunau. A nivel internacional, los planes requieren que se use para abrir el servicio a Funafuti (Tuvalu), Majuro (Islas Marshall) y otros estados insulares cercanos. Opera cuatro aviones, uno DHC-6-300 y tres Y12, en vuelos que cubren el archipiélago del Pacífico Sur. Con ese fin, ha basado un Y12F en Kiritimati (Christmas) Island para servir al grupo de Line Island, mientras que los tres aviones restantes atienden al grupo de la isla de Kiribati.

Según un estudio del gobierno, el Bombardier DHC-6-300 se adquirió para satisfacer la creciente demanda de servicios aéreos nacionales e internacionales que ha tenido una capacidad insuficiente, también la aerolínea informó que se han visto negativamente afectados por el mal estado de las pistas en la mayoría de los casos, así como en el suministros erráticos del combustible Jet A-1.

Para respaldar las operaciones del Q100, el gobierno actualizará seis aeródromos insulares para manejar este tipo de aeronaves en 2019 y diecinueve en 2036. Con el fin de mejorar la conectividad y accesibilidad en toda la cadena isleña, el número de programas de vuelo por mes también aumentará a 30 en 2019 y 50 para 2036.

Para reforzar los vínculos internacionales de Kiribati, el gobierno también ha aludido a agregar un avión de Airbus, presumiblemente un miembro de la familia A320, para agregar a la flota de Air Kiribati. La aeronave está siendo adquirida por el gobierno taiwanés para el transportista y está programada para principios de 2018.

Air Kiribati reported that the 23-year contract of the current aircraft would undergo 100 hours of testing before being deployed in the commercial service, where it will be used to connect mainly the national ports of Abemama, Butaritari, Tabiteuea North and Nikunau. At an international level, the plans require that it be used to open the service to Funafuti (Tuvalu), Majuro (Marshall Islands) and other nearby island states. It operates four planes, one DHC-6-300 and three Y12 s, on flights that cover the South Pacific archipelago.
