Nube volcánica La Soufriere causa desvíos y anulaciones vuelos
El Volcán La Sufriere de la Isla San Vicente, en la región Caribe ha entrado en actividad. Las aerolíneas que vuelan en la región han sido alertadas en el espacio aéreo y obligadas a desviar o cancelar vuelos este Domingo 11/04 cuando el volcán entró en actividad en lo que se denomina técnicamente como fase eruptiva explosiva.
El volcán La Soufriere es el único activo potencialmente en esa parte del Caribe y tiene una altura de unos 1.200 metros. Su erupción de partículas muy finas ha afectado a unas 16 mil personas que han debido abandonar sus hogares. Las cancelaciones de vuelos afectan la zona de las islas de Barbados y Dominica.
El Centro de Investigación Sísmica de la Universidad de las Indias Occidentales, que se dedica al estudio de la vulcanología de la región, informó de que “el volcán ha entrado en una fase eruptiva explosiva que puede continuar durante los próximos días y semanas. Se espera que las explosiones sean de magnitud similar o mayor” a las ya registradas.
Caribbean Airlines, que es la compañía regional que cubre estas islas, ha cancelado las siguientes rutas: desde y hacia Antigua a Barbados, Barbados a Dominica, Barbados a San Vicente, Granada a Barbados, Barbados a Ogle, Guyana y Barbados a Kingston, Jamaica.
La actividad el volcán complica el aislamiento de estos territorios del suministro de vacunas que estaban llegado por vía aérea. The La Sufriere Volcano on San Vicente Island, in the Caribbean region, has become active.
