China Airlines has taken delivery of its last Boeing 777-300ER on order, with the aircraft scheduled to land at Taoyuan International airport on 17 May.
The aircraft, which features a co-branded livery with Boeing, will be deployed on services to Frankfurt and North America from late May, says China Airlines.
Registered as B-18007, the jet is powered by General Electric GE90 engines. China Airlines took delivery of its first -300ER in October 2014.
With the addition of the widebody, the Taiwanese flag carrier will also gradually increase its Taipei-New York frequency to five-times weekly, and its Taipei-Frankfurt service to daily.
China Airlines has options to take a further four -300ERs. The carrier is preparing to take its first Airbus A350-900 in July. China Airlines’ current widebody fleet comprises of A340s, 747s and 777s.

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), an aircraft lessor in the Gulf, plans to buy as many as 65 turboprop ATR 72-600s, the company’s chief executive said on Monday, citing increasing demand in the emerging markets and elsewhere.
DAE already owns 35 ATR 72-600s, a short haul regional jet built by an Airbus Group and Finmeccanica co-owned firm, according to a company slide. Those aircraft are leased — or have been committed to be leased — to airlines predominately operating in Latin America and Asia.
“Our objective is to own somewhere between 60 and 100 just of those aircraft,” Firoz Tarapore told Gulf News in an interview at DAEs offices in Dubai. By Gulf News’ calculations, 65 new ATR-600s are worth $1.74 billion (Dh6.4 billion) at list prices.
DAE, who last month reported a $610.4 million profit for 2015, sees turboprop demand growing in Asia, Africa, Australasia, the Caribbean, Latin America and in parts of Europe.

“It’s a fabulous aircraft that serves a very unique requirement,” Tarapore said, telling Gulf News that there was no set timeframe to buy the turboprops.
There is also increasing demand in the Middle East. DAE recently placed two ATR 72-600s with Egyptian-Saudi Arabian airline Nesma and Iran’s national carrier Iran Air signed a deal in February to buy as many as 40 of the turboprops from the manufacturer.
“Iran is an important market for us and we are working to get the right profile and business there,” Tarapore said.
DAE, who also owns and leases out Boeing and Airbus aircraft, bought 20 ATR 72-600s in 2014 in a deal valued at $988 million that included options for a further 20. DAE has not exercised those options and would consider buying more of the turboprops on the open market having bought at least 15 that way already, Tarapore said.
DAE has “backed away at the last minute” from deals to lease out 12 Airbus A320neo’s, the manufacturers new version of the narrow body medium-haul jet, Tarapore said.
DAE does not own any A320neo’s though it is common, shortly before delivery, for airlines to reach a sale and leaseback arrangement with a lessor.
Airlines have complained of cooling issues with the Pratt & Whitney engine that powers the A320neo, while more recently there have been complaints over aircraft software and hydraulic problems.
It “has been very frustrating because it stops us from doing business,” Tarapore said, blaming a lack of visibility on Airbus and Pratt & Whitney’s plans to solve the engine issue.
An alternative engine for the A320neo’s built by General Electric-Safran venture CFM International is scheduled to enter service in July.

Brazil company complains ‘too big of a distortion’ in market. Canadian planemaker says sale was in accord with trade rules
Embraer SA, the Brazilian maker of regional jets, may ask the World Trade Organization to probe whether government subsidies enabled Canada’s Bombardier Inc. to offer its C Series aircraft to Delta Air Lines Inc. at below the production cost.
Delta agreed last month to buy at least 75 of Bombardier’s state-of-the-art jetliners, an order valued at $5.6 billion based on list prices. The Canadian planemaker has a $1 billion commitment for investment from Quebec’s government and is negotiating for federal aid as well.
“This causes too big of a distortion in the market,” Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva, head of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said in an interview at the company’s offices in Sao Paulo. “We are analyzing the situation, looking for more information and already in talks with the Brazilian government.”
Bombardier’s second-quarter results will include an “onerous contract provision” to be recorded as a non-cash charge of $500 million in conjunction with 127 C Series purchase agreements, according to a company filing. The 127 orders include the 75 aircraft that Delta is purchasing, as well as 45 that Air Canada agreed to buy in February.
“This shows Bombardier aggressiveness and raises suspicions that Bombardier offered its CS100 for a price below cost,” Souza e Silva said. “If it too hard to compete with the government of Canada.”
All Compliant
Bombardier is compliant with all trade rules and its accounting provisions and cash needs are following a five-year plan announced in November, said Marianella de la Barrera, a company spokeswoman.
Similar to Boeing Co. and other planemakers, Bombardier will incur losses during the early production of the C Series because of startup costs. The factory will follow a normal learning curve and become more efficient over time and as volume increases, de la Barrera said.
Bombardier hasn’t received any funds yet from the government of Quebec and the company hasn’t even gotten a commitment from Canada’s federal government. “Even if or when we conclude agreements with C Series investments from governments, we fully expect those to be in compliance as well,” de la Barrera said.
Bombardier’s sales to Delta and Air Canada were “likely below cost in an attempt to build momentum,” George Ferguson, senior air transport analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, wrote in a research note last week.
