Este 16 de agosto de 2017 se cumple 12 años del accidente que afectó pasajeros a la Isla de Martinica con la muerte de 160 personas en territorio de Venezuela
La ACVA, es una Asociación de víctimas de la catástrofe aérea del 16 de agosto de 2005 que organizarono una ceremonia de recuerdo anual en Fort-de-France (Martinica). Entonces familias marcharán al palacio de la justicia y el tribunal de apelación de la isla. Una forma de desafiar a los resultados de la investigación judicial, lo que significa que el piloto que murió como el único responsable por el accidente y así cerrar la puerta a un juicio.

A las 6:00 a.m. el vuelo YH708 de West Caribbean Airways despegó de la Ciudad de Panamá rumbo a Martinica con 160 pasajeros a bordo, de los cuales 152 personas eran de la Isla de Martinica. Después de menos de una hora de vuelo, los instrumentos comienzan a sonar una alarma en la cabina del piloto. El avión perdió altura y se vuelve incontrolable. El capitán desconectó el piloto automático y trata de ajustar la aeronave para subir. Sin poder controlar el avión debido a una fuerte tormenta, el vuelo 708 se precipita en una región montañosa de Venezuela. No hubo sobrevivientes de la aeronave McDonnell Douglas MD-82.
La investigación, que duró diez años, nos permite comprender que la aeronave estaba sobrecargada: demasiado equipaje, demasiado combustible, llegando a la conclusión de que el factor humano es el centro del problema.
