Emirates Airline‘s orders for the Boeing 777X dropped to 115 in response to an initial order of 150 units. Emirates converted 11 firm orders of the Boeing 777X to options and opted for 30 Boeing 787 while converting 6 orders of the Boeing 777-300ER to 777X. The Gulf airline is still planning to receive 126 Boeing 777X planes but will have to re-commit to the plane that is now in option.
During the Dubai Airshow 2019, the most notable orders have been formulated by Emirates Airline and Air Arabia pate. While Air Arabia placed a mega order of the Airbus A320NEO, including the A321NEO XLR variant, Emirates Airline made headlines with orders for the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.
At the Dubai Airshow of 2017, Boeing announced that it had reached a tentative agreement with Emirates for the purchase of 40 Boeing 787-10 with conversion rights for the smaller Boeing 787-9. However, when Airbus decided to close the Airbus A380 program and announced a tentative agreement with Emirates for 30 Airbus A350-900 and 40 Airbus A330-900, it seemed that Boeing was going to lose the ship.
The tentative agreement with Boeing for 40 Dreamliners expired earlier this year, which for some was considered a sign that Boeing would be losing an order here. However, the expiration of the agreements is never an indication that no agreement will be reached and I believe that an agreement with the Boeing 787 would be part of a broader framework.
