American Airlines extiende la suspensión de la flota Boeing 737 MAX

American Airlines anunció este Domingo 24 Marzo 2019 que ha decidido extender las cancelaciones de vuelos planeados en aviones Boeing 737-8 MAX hasta el próximo 24 Abril 2019, prolongando la programación de sus vuelos con este tipo de aeronaves.

American Airlines ha comunicado que la medida se produce mientras espera información de las autoridades y de Boeing para poder retomar el uso de estas aeronaves. Los Boeing 737 MAX permanecen vetados de los cielos del mundo en respuesta a las dudas surgidas tras dos accidentes. American Airlines es la segunda línea aérea con el mayor número de aeronaves 737 MAX, operando hasta ahora 24 aviones de ese modelo, seguida de Southwest Airlines, que dispone de 34 unidades. En un comunicado la aerolínea explicó que tomó la decisión de suspender estos vuelos con el fin de ofrecer un mejor servicio a los clientes y facilitar que cambien sus reservas a otras alternativas. Boeing ya anunció que tiene previsto hacer una actualización de software para responder a los problemas descubiertos en esas investigaciones, así como nueva formación para los pilotos. Además, la aerolínea prevé comenzar a incluir por defecto un sistema de seguridad que vendía como añadido y que alerta de posibles fallos en el mecanismo en cuestión.

Aunque no se conocen aún las causas de los accidentes aéreos, las investigaciones apuntan a que podrían deberse a fallos en un software diseñado para mejorar la seguridad en la fase de ascenso de los aparatos y/o en los sensores que activan ese mecanismo. El Gobierno estadounidense, mientras tanto, ha ordenado una auditoría de todo el proceso de certificación de los Boeing 737 MAX.
